Who we are
Mia (“the app”) is a tarot reading app operated by Mia Lab (“we”, “us”). This policy covers the Mia app and this website. If you have a question about your data, write to wanglongtao@mialab.cn.
What we collect
| Data | What it is | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Account identifier | A stable identifier from Sign in with Apple. The app doesn’t ask Apple for your name or email, and we never see your Apple ID password. | To keep your account, readings and history together. |
| Your questions and messages | The questions you ask, your follow-up messages to Mia, passages you save and feedback you give. | To write your readings and replies. |
| Readings | The cards you drew and the readings and replies written for you. | To show them again in your journey, week and month views. |
| Mia’s notes about you | Short notes Mia keeps so she doesn’t have to ask twice (see “Mia’s memory”). | So Mia can pick up where you left off. |
| Birthday and nickname (optional) | Only if you enter them, for birth cards and birth groups. | To work out your birth cards and show you in a group you join. |
| App usage | Whether a reading was shown to you, which screen it started from, and the app version. | So only readings you actually saw become part of Mia’s memory, and to understand how the app is used. |
| Technical data | Your IP address and request details in our server logs. | To keep the service running and secure. |
We don’t collect your location, contacts, photos, health data, advertising identifiers or payment details. Mia has no ads and doesn’t track you across other companies’ apps or websites. Mia 1.0 has no in-app purchases.
On your phone, the app keeps a few settings (language, display preferences, reminders) in standard iOS storage.
Mia’s memory
Mia remembers you, the way a reader you visit often would. She keeps:
- a note on how best to talk with you;
- the matters you bring her: your questions, the cards, and what she told you;
- her own record of the advice and predictions she gave, and what came of them, so a second reading on the same matter can say whether things have changed.
You can read all of it, correct it, or delete it at Me → What Mia remembers. “Forget everything” clears her notes and leaves your readings in your journey. Everything she remembers is deleted with your account.
How readings are written
Readings and replies are written by an AI model. To write them, your question, the cards you drew, relevant earlier readings and Mia’s notes, and your messages go to our server and from there to our AI model provider, DeepSeek, a company based in China, which returns the text. DeepSeek processes this data under its own API terms and privacy policy.
The app asks for your consent before your first question is sent. You can withdraw it at any time by deleting your account.
Your questions are free text, so please don’t include anything you wouldn’t want stored or processed this way, such as other people’s full names or contact details.
Readings are for reflection and entertainment. They aren’t medical, legal or financial advice, and they can’t predict the future.
Why we use your data
- To provide Mia: your account, readings, memory and history are needed to give you the service you ask for.
- Your consent: for sending your questions to the AI model provider. You can withdraw it by deleting your account.
- Legitimate interests: keeping the service secure, preventing abuse, and understanding which parts of the app are used, without advertising or profiling for others.
- Legal obligations: where the law requires us to keep or disclose something.
Where your data is stored
Your account, readings and Mia’s notes are stored on our servers, hosted by Tencent Cloud in Beijing, China. The AI model provider also processes data in China. If you live outside China, your data is transferred there. It travels encrypted (HTTPS), and our server stores your session tokens only in hashed form.
How long we keep it
We keep your account, readings and Mia’s notes for as long as your account exists. You can clear your reading history at any time. When you delete your account, your data is removed from our active systems within 30 days and from backups within 90 days, unless the law requires us to keep something longer. Server logs are kept only as long as needed to run and secure the service.
Your choices and rights
- See or change what Mia remembers: Me → What Mia remembers.
- Clear your reading history: Me → Account and privacy → Clear reading history.
- Delete your account: Me → Account and privacy → Delete account. You confirm with Sign in with Apple.
- Remove your birthday: delete your birthday and birth profile in the app at any time.
- Access, correction, export or objection: write to wanglongtao@mialab.cn. We reply within 30 days.
Depending on where you live (for example in the EU, the UK or California), you may have further rights, including the right to complain to your data protection authority.
Children, safety and changes
Children
Mia isn’t meant for children under 13, or under the minimum age for consenting to online services where you live, and we don’t knowingly collect their data. If you think a child has used Mia, write to us and we’ll delete the account.
If you’re in crisis
If you tell Mia you might hurt yourself, the app shows help lines for your region. Mia can’t contact anyone for you. If you’re in danger, call your local emergency number.
Changes to this policy
We’ll post changes here and update the date at the top. For significant changes, we’ll also tell you in the app.
